The main cause of most of the diseases, pains, and discomforts in our body is inflammation. Unfortunately the causes of inflammation are all around us and they can overwhelm our body at times. What causes inflammation in our body? Some of the main causes of inflammation are:
- Stress (physical and emotional)
- Poor diet
- Food allergies
- Hormones, when out of balance
- Chemicals in our environment (such as cleaning products, air fresheners, perfumes, etc.),
Is there any way to reduce these inflammations?
The best answer is yes, stay away from these inflammation producing factors, but it is not easy and sometimes even impossible. Some might be easier than others, for example, we can improve our diet and stay away from the foods that we are allergic to, but we cannot control the chemicals in our environment, especially if we spend most of our time in public. Stress can also be hard to control.
The good news is, there are natural foods that can help our body fight inflammation. Even better news, these natural foods are easily accessible and can be found in almost all of our grocery stores. Below you will find three of my favorite anti-inflammatory spices and a delicious recipe, that has all three, to assist your body with fighting inflammation.
So go on stress all you want, this drink will help you restore your inner peace; not really; wishful thinking. Restoring your inner peace requires a lot more than just a drink.
Without further due, here are my favorite anti-inflammatory spices and the recipe for my favorite drink:
In one of my earlier posts I talked about the health benefits of ginger, and one of those amazing health benefits was the Ginger’s ability to fight inflammation. 6-Gingerol is the major pharmacological-active component of ginger. It is known to exhibit a variety of biological activities including anticancer, anti-inflammation, and anti-oxidation.
In the same post I also talked about the health benefits of Turmeric. Clinical studies have shown that curcumin is perhaps the most effective natural substance on earth at inhibiting COX-2, an enzyme that is responsible for sparking your body’s inflammatory response.
Cinnamon contains seven kinds of flavonoids. flavonoids are powerful antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and immune system benefits. One study suggests that cinnamons are one of the most beneficial spices on the earth with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, immunity-boosting, cancer and heart disease-protecting abilities.
Put these three spices together and boom, you have a triple action anti-inflammatory super drink. Not only this drink is good for you, but also it is super delicious and comforting as well.
What you need:
- 1 TBSP fresh ground turmeric or turmeric powder
- 1/2 TBSP fresh ground ginger or ginger powder
- 1/2 stick of cinnamon or 1 TSP of cinnamon powder
- Pinch of Blackpepper**
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup Coconut milk
- 1 TBSP raw honey** or 100% pure maple syrup, you might need to adjust this to your taste
- Bring 1 cup of water to boil
- Add all spices to a tea sack and immerse into the boiling water
- Turn heat to low, add coconut milk to the water and spices, cover and let simmer for 5-10 min
- Pour your Golden tea in a cup, add honey or maple syrup and stir
**If you are using raw honey, let your tea cool down a bit, before adding in the honey
**Blackpepper will enhance the absorption of turmeric in the small intestine, so it is very important to include this spice
Please note there are much more health benefit to this drink, such as help with controlling your blood sugar, liver detoxification, anti-aging, etc. However, for the purposes of this post I have only focused on the anti-inflammatory properties of this drink.
